August 9th 2008
I have recently started a new animation blog at www.dylanhunter.blogspot.com in order to better and more easily keep an update on my progress through school. The plan also is that it will be better for networking purposes as well, until I properly get this site up and order with a Flash redesign. However, for now, my main priority is schooling which is going excellently! I am learning an amazing amount of things to help refine my eye and already producing animation of a quality I have not achieved prior. Also, I leave for a funfilled week at Siggraph tomorrow, and my excitement is endless. I have compiled a new character animation only reel which I will hand out for any job or intern possibilities that may arise. Wish me luck everyone!
July 21st 2008
Animation Mentor proceeds really well, what an exciting course this is. It's just excellent to get involved and everything about it, I have not near enough praise for it. I went out on the weekend and shot a lot of footage to piece together a new short and do some neat visual effects in my spare time. A lot of things I wanted to accomplish, one of which being getting hit by a car. We've all seen it, but I've never tried it, thought it turned out decently. Click Here.
July 16th 2008
Another week of classes and a small update. School is very exciting and the principles, albeit basic at the moment, that I'm learning I am learning to a new level of understanding and appreciation. The importance of such fundamental concepts is really making sense now more than it ever did; thus proving the point that animation is a life long art that can always be improved. I've discovered an animation test I did for Bardel shortly before I signed up for school, it was a limited test (5 hours) and tho I thought I did decently well, I can already see many things I didn't see before to make it all a lot stronger. There were a number of people applying for only 1 or 2 short term positions so I'm not distraught, but I know it's a competitive industry and I can do so much more. Timing is such a deadly important principle, I can't wait to do better and am really grateful for this opportunity to flourish; but no rest for the wicked. To see my animation test, click here.
June 30th 2008
I know, I know, website updates continue, I'm trying to get my submenus back from the conversion to Dreamweaver; some sort of glitch with the CSS file. I'll keep it posted, but in the meantime I've placed temporary links to those pages above.
In other more exciting news, today is the first day of Animation Mentor for me, and words can't describe the unparalleled coolness that's transpired already. There is truly amazing stuff I've seen and I'm even more enthralled than ever to really begin the hard work, having now a better understanding of what to expect. Definately no regrets in this decision, let the good times roll!
June 19th 2008
Website redesign has begun, to make it more web compliant. I temporarily took some subpages down, but they will be up again in a few days. I am also setting up a work webcam, since I am doing a fair amount from my den now; embedding it as a test: Click Here for Live Stream. It may or may not work at this point.
June 12th 2008
It's been a little while since an update; I am currently redoing the entire website in Dreamweaver and Flash as opposed to its current mediocre Frontpage style. This is a slightly slow process as it's a bunch of new attempts of never-been-tried for myself. The new site should be up soon however.
In other news, my application for Animation Mentor has gone through and I will be starting advanced studies in character animation at the end of this month. This is very exciting, the best way to learn is to learn from the best. I've also begun work on a high poly modelling project as well a new vfx test. I'll return with more info soon.
April 17th 2008
This is a little greenscreening project I've been working on; the original inspiration came from Matt Harding's popular youtube video. It was an exhausting challenge, and I learned alot from this; it's never perfect and never finished, but I'm happy with it for now, hehe. Click Here
April 13th 2008
Back to a few personal projects and local activism (and subsequent projects deriving of that). Just because I like this, here's an early draft of a demo reel I'm putting together as part of a contract I'm working on. Incomplete but getting there; a few of my own elements included. Click Here. Other than that, life's pretty busy and keeps on rollin'. I'll try to make posts more regularly.
Mar 2nd 2008
Not too much to show on the personal/creative side sadly, busy at work and been busy at work-that's-other-than work. Soon tho, a few projects and ideas on the go and a chance to accomplish them comes near. In the meantime, the last 2.5-3 weeks I was doing this for my company, all visual elements were done by myself, and its not for any particular client, as well its evidentally being posted on Youtube, so I feel safe posting this. I learned an awful lot about Geothermal power, Click Here to learn what I did!
Feb 2nd 2008
A total backup and fresh reformat of my computer, hard to believe I was running out of space. Events progress well and I'm kept quite busy. Currently started new work contracting for a company in the US in my spare time: very exciting stuff. Here is a partial conceptualization for Robotica, a test of a holographic display of sorts. Soon there will be a glowing blue lady at the center of it and the room will be modelled and finished. This is an integral crux to one of my story elements... but for now watch here (success!) Not the most exciting, but looking very cool, so I'm happy!
Jan 13th 2008
Another test in production, I started modelling a CG dragon in good ol' XSI again to see how far I'd make it. Thanks to a special friend for the inspiration, but tests so far are quite good. For extra added bonus I comped the dragon into a short shot I took to give it more believability. May have to watch it a couple times and I can't wait until I properly unwrap it. See Here
Jan 8th 2008
A new year and cool new stuff on the horizon! With a lil Christmas money I managed to purchase a Mini DV Camcorder to produce some higher quality material then my Digicam was capable of. A busy couple of months it has been. I did manage to go snowshoeing on the weekend and get some great shots of a hungry pheasant... check it out... the snowy mountains so close, yet so high above Vancouver, it puts Calgary to shame. See Here
November 18th 2007
Progress with my submission for the 11 seconds club. Lipsync blocked in and down the base body animation begins, but with much work left to do. It feels refreshing to touch a character again and at the same time entirely just as frustrating Click Here to see 11 seconds of Glory!
November 13th 2007
Just a little comping test to add to the archives, I learned alot from this shot, and for all sakes and purposes it will serve me well. Simple but effective Click Here. And with luck, my entry for the 11 second club will make it in on time; its an ambitious feat and my character animation skills are a little rusty, nevermind the obscurity of Maya-based rigs, though so far I like what I see.
November 2nd 2007
With a busy day schedule, I'm lacking on keeping this site as up to date as I originally planned, but nonetheless updates will be made. Here's a neat test making a particle sun and flares that basically fell apart, and so doesn't look very good. It still was a fantastic learning experience as particles are a whole new and cool world in themselves. Click Here to see my semi-successful abomination.
September 23rd 2007
A cool 3d photo effect... short but interesting. This pic is quite a few years old but was perfect for this test and showed me lots on how to create similarly cool effects. Click Here I prefer the first half most, and amazing how much photoshopping this took.
September 16th 2007
A new achievement in visual effects for myself: set extension. A short clip, but I dare you to guess what's not supposed to be there. This was mostly to see what I could do for Robotica and I think this will go a long way to help out its visual development. Plus it was just fun. Click here
September 12th 2007
Updates gaa! Here are a couple samples of homemade HDRIs I comped together... I'm sure there's more potential to what the technology offers, but its hard to really show that yet. What it is really good for so far is insane flexibility with colour correction, as seen here as well as here.
Soon I should have a copy of the independant short I helped on over the summer with editing, videography and audio work. It has been completed and is totally festival worthy, it's a great piece, I can't wait to post it!
August 27th 2007
HDRI ho! Upon recent revelation, it turns out that to generically make HDR photos natively in Photoshop I need CS2... grrr. But nonetheless I was able to download a couple free 32 bpc HDR pics and was able to apply the principle to them, a victory nonetheless. Click here
Here's another jpg of a more artistic piece I'm still working on, while trying to endulge on the more artistic side of photoshop; lotta work left to do, but not too shabby thus far.
August 19th 2007
Minor success and minor failure; a quick attempt at updating the webpage banner up above. I did rework it and yes... believe it or not, it is actually an animated gif (If you look closely, the eye glows every 9 seconds). It works! I was going for subtle, but the crux of my problem is the fact that it looks like an animated gif from ten years ago.. grrrr. It's clearly a render quality problem, but that's juxtaposed with file size which makes it complicated. I'm sure I can figure this out, animated gifs are rather new to me; I never thought I'd want to make something so crappy, but this is version one after all.
I made this test pic over the weekend as well, technically it's not related to my day job so I can post it. The plane model was free from the internet and the terrain is procedural.
August 15th 2007
Yet another triumph! Digital Footage Restoration... and then some. The woman in the video was completely oblivious to the fact I was filming her... and therefore have her consent.
Actually this is footage from 1989 I captured from a VHS that was degrading in quality, much like the original Star Wars films. The lady, of whom I know, is ok with me using this (I'm sure). I had a bit of fun with the wheat fields, but can you blame me?
August 11th 2007
A quirky test of more After Effects, ever experience deja vu? I just happened to set up a camera by pure coincidence to capture such a trepidation. Click here This kind of shot
August 8th 2007
Behold my tutelage with After Effects click here. Google Earth, eat your heart out. It's absolutely amazing what I'm learning out here, the scope of my project's horizons expand and all the more becomes possible. It also humbles me with how much is possible and how true the adage "the sky's the limit" really applies; all very exciting.
My wikipik for
the week now is director
Michael Bay, most notably known for the recent
Transformers movie, but more epically known for
directing crap-in-a-flaming-paper-bag movies like
Pearl Harbour
and Armageddon.
He does, however go on to prove that backed with a newly
inflated Hollywood budget and demigogical legacy for
making crap, one can go on to produce awesome crap, but
crap nonetheless. He is the poster-boy for what
Hollywood is becoming, and there are differential
supporters of it, like myself, who know that this absurd
usage of high-priced vfx combined with childhood
nostalgia is really helping to push the limits of what
the skies can do. I can't help but feel like a
living paradox.
July 18th 2007
New city, new day time job, still trying to figure out my next computer project, but I suspect it is Robotica related; I find the town of Vancouver to be quite inspiring for the needed form of dystopia and this has lead to an influx of many interesting potential plot elements (aka script writing progresses)
June 20th 2007
The word is out, I'm moving to Vancouver for my new job with Image Maker. I'll do my sincerest to keep the website updated fairly regularly. Other ventures went well, here is a link to a 15 min. video roast I made over the past few weeks for my parents' 65th Birthdays. They were quite surprised
May 24th 2007
My resume has been updated and available on the Profile page. As well, I've placed my work from Raven Tales in one of the hot-slots above for easy viewing.
May 19th 2007
I've made a new and more up-to-date showreel of my work, to replace the old 2006 showreel. The 2007 Showreel is on the air! This is largely to compliment the new animation reel I'm making to apply to studios back out in Vancouver, since the market once again seems to be very hot, and not overflooded as was the case the previous round.
I have quite a number of projects transpiring as we speak: logo/website design for a local Foundation and a very interesting short video as well, in which I'm assisting in the actual production/post-production. It is a festival-worthy piece and I find that quite exciting.
May 13th 2007
My connections continue to grow, I took a 2 day video production workshop over the weekend through Emmedia which turned out to be invaluable in terms of shooting video footage and making it resemble Film very closely. Not to undermine the value of intimately knowing a DVX camera and absolutely everything it's capabable of. There are a couple people I'm helping out with their productions over the next couple weeks, some photoshop work and some PA for two amazing projects which should also prove to be very exciting, I'm psyched!
And a very special Happy Mother's Day goes out to my mom! For her constant support throughout the years. Eternal thank-you's, it's utterly irreplaceable, and wishing you and dad all the best!
May 1st 2007
I've uploaded a preliminary montage of some work from Raven Tales. Click Here to view it. Do keep in mind, I did character animation only, and not all elements in some shots. The next step for me is to compile a new showreel!
As well, I have recently and finally become a member of the Quickdraw Animation Society, gotta love those guys. There are a few exciting opportunities opening up on that avenue as well, though I'm still waiting to hear back about an even more promising job prospect.
I've disabled the forums, their getting cluttered with spam and it's being highly annoying.
My wikipick for the week is Michaëlle Jean, Canada's current Govt. General. A bang up job she's doing vying for increased funding for the arts in Alberta! She has 100% ofl my support, but she nonetheless is a good example of the curious dilemma of Canadianism. Or at least I find it funny that our Govt. General came from Haiti and relinquished her citizenship in France to represent the Queen of England in Canada. What a quirky country we live in.
Apr 25th 2007
My work from Raven Tales finally arrived, I now have copies of episodes 4 and 5, the ones I worked on. Very shortly, I should be able to compile a nice lil montage of my updated work... compiling as we speak. Oh these are exciting times! Check out my credits!
Apr 19th 2007
Here's a little project I've been working on for fun, I was experimenting with a level of grandeur. The first part is just Google Earth, but the second shot is purely original, however not rendered.
Click Here to view there -->
I have also added a link to my old graphic novel site "Trinity Gone Wrong" under affiliates... what? I can't be affiliated with myself? Whatever, it's embarrassing but it's there.
Apr 16th 2007
Blast... I had to put flash down for a bit to concentrate on other, more immediate venues; a week of unfortunate web events. i meant to post my flash animation, but have suffered the bitter wrath of Murphy. One day soon, Flash, very very soon.... your a** will be mine.
Apr 12th 2007
Turns out the website was down for a day, I apologize for the inconvenience. It caught myself off-guard as well. Temporary problems uploading to my webhost it seems.
Apr 10th 2007
My first successful Flash animation... hurrah! Considering I'm teaching myself I'm pleased, I'll have something posted soon.
A blast from the past:
DJ Fuzzy Bunny: A Fuzzy Sampla
My DJ Promo CD, that does take me back. On a related note, I am also delving back into some sound design, and hopefully music as well. It will be needed for when Robotica becomes known.
Apr 3rd 2007
Some slight reorganization on the website. My ZKO technical animation has been placed just above. As well, the newer version of Online Incognito has been updated and also placed just above. I think its time to put this project to rest for now.
Raven Tales DVDs will be in very shortly. This is exciting news, because I can then start work on a new demo reel, which should be superiorly more effective than my graduation reel.
Mar 31st 2007
The The link just below was broken for a day, but it was my birthday, I wasn't inclined to fix it. Online Incognito is finished, just not compressed yet, very shortly.
And a very special happy birthday to Tina! One day after mine, now that is a blessed experience, hehe.
My wikipik for the week is the Goracle, also known by his human name as Al Gore. With his early knowledge of global warming and loss of presidency, he was able to follow his dream... of informing people of global warming. Or perhaps his dream was to change the planet... nonetheless, it is happening. Sydney, Australia turned off its lights the other night, to show it's as simple as flipping a switch. A pretty impressive movement for the over 10,000 households and businesses involved. The times they are a changin', but not to give one man all the credit; strangely, it took an offbeat celebrity in order to get us to care. Pensive.
Mar 25th 2007
The ZKO promotional product animation is now up on the site with streaming compression. No sound, however, I wasn't responsible for audio on this project.
The teach yourself Flash course proceeds with moderate efficiency and Online Incognito (my compression camp submission) closes in on a more finalized product.
Mar 22nd 2007
My Wikipik for the week is Derek Smart, the brilliant creator of the Battlecruiser Legacy. A series of fantastic capital ship space sims with a wickedly complex user interface. But more so, my hat goes off to Derek's internet etiquette where he has an infamous reputation. Battlecruiser can reach its potential, but it lies in integrating the immersive experience with the interface and full scope of the grandeur. Hat's off 3000 AD, you have my support. The game is grand, but when inquired in a heated forum debate online about attaining the rights for Freespace 3, Smart is quoted as saying:
"I have FULL intentions of getting this license. If I DO get it, you and your teenny leetle friends on your Ferrous Oxide project, are effectively, shutdown because I don't piss around when it comes to IP properties'.
Mar 16th 2007
The website is finally fixed for the most part of the technical details and is W3 compliant, woo! And damn you Microsoft.
More Robotica development, as well as the legalities of finalizing the last details of my company also currently underway. Expect more updates and video posts soon.
I was considering getting a mascot, my own personal rabbit, a lucrative Endeavour indeed. I simply need to find the perfect one.
Mar 14th 2007
A corporate commercial I did for ZKO was completed a little while ago, score one for me. From what I've heard they seem rather thrilled with it, score two for me. I'll get a compressed version up on the site soon enough.
More conceptual design work in progress for Robotica. Since I have a little downtime as I formulate my "company" between projects, this lies to be a great opportunity to get some long overdue nitty-gritty done on my epic world-changing saga yet to become popularized. I'm rigging my Robostrich as we speak, with any luck I'll have an animation test of him very shortly.
Mar 3rd 2007
My editing reel is up on the site, made for a client at Telus. A special thanks to Gus Lu for his Co-Producing assistance. It seems like I'm running out of space up there.
Well I've finally re-established myself at my new humble abode in Bankview, and this has an actual den so I can claim it an actual studio. I have a couple projects from clients I'm working on at the moment, more reorganization on the way as well.
Feb 27th 2007
Woo! My Compression Camp project is finally up on the site, still a lil embarrassing, but its fun. Not a bad greenscreen narrative for being done in 5 days if I do say so myself. Check it out.
It's messy right now, there's going to be a 5th preview window up top with my editing reel, so I'm just leaving space.
Feb 23rd 2007
For those of you have noticed that my website doesn't quite display properly in FireFox or Safari, I am working on it, in fact, I've made great strides today. From what I can tell, its a microsoft issue, since I made this page in Frontpage Express. I intend to through the html script into Dreamweaver and mess around with that; Frontpage writes really messy scripts. I'm not a coder but I'm learning :)
And a new addition to the animations section... well a proper recompression of my VFS's official version of my reel. I still prefer the other version, but I guess this one is fully non copyrighted, because of the music.
One addition to the Gallery as well... more to come soon, but this is the only one I had time to scan
Feb 16th 2007
Hurrah! I've finally managed to compress the web videos in a mighty serious way. but don't thank me, thank that big almighty apple in the sky. No more painfully slow download times, check it out!
Compression Camp is over and what a week. I was cut off a lot of time from obligations I couldn't get out of, but my greenscreen narrative got through past the 2nd pass before I decidedly ran out of time. I will finish it in the near future and post it likewise, it's embarassing but I'm excited!
Feb 2nd 2007
Life is a blur... Emmedia's Compression Camp is coming up, and I'm freakishly busy at work trying to keep the show alive. It's all about the Zen and Art of Television Editing, and a reinvention of the old format of news broadcasting. 'Cuz it ain't news baby, it's show business.
Jan. 26th 2007
More Additions to the animation gallery. Downloads are still a little slow, please be patient. Energy TV's new Art Director *ahem* says and I quote "... the times they are a'changin'...cuz I'm the art director and my input means something woo! "
Grant application goes forth, still work left to do but wish me luck.
Jan. 24th 2007
Green screen tests have been a success! A simple black and white first draft and now a colour pass... this is exciting. Considering I jury rigged a green screen with much less than the recommended alotment of space, I'm very pleased. Next step, boost the quality with an upgraded camera.
Some slight compression issues with the web videos. I'm working on making them streaming with RSS feeds. Soon it should be quicker, but I know you dont mind in the meantime.
Jan. 18th 2007
With my new found buddies at Emmedia, I was able to set up a green screen in my humble abode. and the website nears completion!
Jan. 16th 2007
Its application time for the AFA umm "help fund" a fantastic opportunity to launch my concept of Robotica and get people's attention on it!
Jan. 3rd, 20067
Welcome back to the new year! It's 2007 right? Well it was a nice lil vacation, and I did manage to get some authentic aerial footage of the Grand Canyon from a chopper. I'll find something pretty cool to do with that.
Notice the lil box in the the corner? -->
Prepare for the up and coming Video Blog experiment. If all is successful, this could blossom into some very cool innovations.
Dec. 10th, 2006
Well it finally happened... www.fuzzybunnyfilms.com is no more, say hello to the new, revamped, www.franticrabbit.com . Just finally propogated and established today.
With the internship over, my work with Energy TV has jumped to a whole new level. I've begun editing segments of the actual show that will air on TV, intensive but creative. I guess we'll see where things go from here.
Dec. 3rd, 2006
The company show-reel is now up on the site! Soon I'll be able to add more Raven Tales stuff to it, but for now I'm quite happy with it. Still having some problems with the links to my other pages, but then again, I'm not a web designer. I'm sure I'll have it figured out shortly.
Dec. 1st, 2006
The New Machine internship has finished. Almost sad, really. But at the same time, I picked up a new job as an assistant editor for Energy TV. And the good times roll...
I found some great reference for some shots I'd like to do for Robotica, hopefully can do a draft test of it soon, but you can check out what I mean here. At the very least, its very cool to watch.
Nov. 21st, 2006
The Robotica first pass animatic is up on the site. Simply a previs to an opening sequence for a possible pilot. Still working on it, but the link works now.
Nov. 8th, 2006
I know, I know, gotta keep the blog up, even if I'm distracted from the webpage construction. For those who notice the name has changed to Frantic Rabbit, this name also coerces better with Bowser Chow, both companies of which will, at some point, serve very meaningful purposes. That's right... long term baby!
For any aspiring freelancers out there... make sure there is a written contract!! Otherwise, it hurts so good. Creative Public is an excellent resource I've discovered for freelancers to know what they deserve and how to protect themselves.
Nov. 1st, 2006
Energy TV is airing in the Calgary-Edmonton area on Saturdays at 12pm MST on Global television. I am doing a lot of creative design and graphics for this show, So check it out so I'm not the only one watching it :P You can view the kickass introduction I made for it in the hyperlink above.
I noticed that Pixar is hiring animators, think you got what it takes? Find out here
Oct. 31th, 2006
Happy all Hallow's Eve! Also, I have recently discovered that Raven Tales, a project I'm contributing to, is being aired on APTN (85 local) on Sundays at 9am and 8pm MST... Woo! so cool.
The script of one of the first of my Robotica scenes is being written as well. Hopefully, I shall be able to storyboard it soon.
Oct. 28th, 2006
Not much to say at this point, the site is still under heavy construction. Updates will be sure to follow.
My Epic Dream Robotica slowly begins to finally take form, and over two years in development. Still much work being done on characters design mostly, but a promotional reel is something I hope to get ready in the near future.
